Forget Goodwood, forget Le Mans, PPC in the Park is the show every right minded petrolhead needs to see before they die. Like the magazine, the event will feature an enormous & eclectic mix of affordable performance cars on show and on track, as well as an extravaganza of car displays.
Track Action
Like last year, the track will be packed all day with everything from hot hatches to aeroplane engineered bedsteads and all points in-between. If you have got something totally unsuitable for the track, you'll be amongst friends (nothing is too strange - as proved by last year's bike engineered Fiat 500, full race 4x4 Bowler off roader and Charlie's 27 litre Rover SD1)Track time books out quickly and even though we have mastered time travel and managed to get more track time, more track spaces and with less cars on track at any one time - it is well worth booking NOW to avoid disappointment. If you don't manage to book a space, it'll still be great fun watching the track action and thanks to Mallory's natural amphitheatre topography you won't miss any of it.
Entertainment
Drifting displays - The 'Ye Olde Drift Team' promise to show us the craziest sideways action you've ever seen in your life. In pre-war 18-litre V12 engines these VSCC racers spend most weekends trying to stop their cars going sideways, but for one day only give in to the natural tendency. It's never been done before but with 1930s steering geometry, skinny crossply tyres and more bravery than Ranulph Fiennes after a couple of pints of Stella it's definitely going to be one to watch.
Lawn mower racing - the worlds fastest lawn mower, driven by Donald Campbell's grandson, will be showcased.
Off road action - Team X Buggies will be off-roading at speeds most landrovers never reach on the road. The off road course is part of the World Motorcross course so it should be interesting and if you have a road legal buggy and want to have a go yourself all you need is an entrance ticket and a fiver on the day.
Ford V's Vauxhall Car Crush- there's been some grudge matches in the past, Ali versus Frazier, Alonso versus Schumacher and the drag race Holman versus Leaper, but at PPC in the Park this year we've the ultimate battle, with our Ford vs Vauxhall in the Car Crush. It is a kind of three-dimensional polling station for Ford and Vauxhall fans. How it works is that there will be two cars, one Ford Escort and one Vauxhall Astra, two sledge hammers and some safety equipment. During the day anyone can don the safety gear and vote on their marque of choice by bashing hell out of the opposition's car. It's not clever but it will make you feel better, andif you don't have a strong dislike of either marque just think of the tax man and have a go.
Tractor Pullers - Just Smoky, the 2009 British Champion is coming along with its colossal 3500bhp, 3 turbo'd 10 litre alcohol guzzling engine.
Practical demonstrations ranging from how to use diagnostic electronic kit with Steve Heath to dynamic handling clinic to answer your questions about how you and your car handles the track
PPC Rolls Royce gets a roof chop- Our track car is getting modified live by www.tootall.info and www.ukkustoms.co.uk. It's a tough ask as most roof chops take weeks to complete but they've got between 9am and 5pm to do the job. The same time that a DVLA officer takes to write a letter when the computer says no.
Rolling Road - if you want to see how powerful your car is TCS Performance are running a rolling road in the paddock so you can test your metal and get some advice on where you can get more power and not waste what you've got. Last year sessions got booked early so have a word with the TCS when you arrive to book some time.
Hot rod burnouts- we're expecting a good showing from the hot rod fraternity again and the burnout arena will be lighting up the paddock compliments of NASC.
Queue of Q-Cars - We are planning to set a world record for a line up of Q registered cars (an indication that the car has been modified using either more than one donor vehicle or that second hand parts have been fitted). If you want to be a world record holder - bring your Q-plate along to take part.
HOT OF THE PRESS ! We have just confirmed a kit car demonstration will be at the show - they will be tearing up the tarmac in the paddock -showing us how it's done. More information and confirmation about whether they will be providing passenger rides will be posted shortly!
All day Bar - located in the heart of things - on hand for you to have a pint after your track time, or whilst enjoying the action. And don't worry about driving home, you can camp over on both the Friday and Saturday night for just £5 per person per night.
Car Displays
The paddock will be alive with track-day competitors and PPC project cars including the Westfield Diesel, the Transit V8, Will's 5-litre Capri, Kev's E-type & Charlie's 27-litre Rover.
There will also be designated parking areas close to the track for interesting cars as well as VIPtreatment for past PPC feature cars.
We have got a stack of car clubs joining us too and in true PPC style there are a wide variety of cars on display.
